You may need medicine while traveling or in the evening, when finding a pharmacy is inconvenient. Prepare a small travel health kit in advance rather than assuming a particular medicine or equivalent will be available locally.
The contents depend on your health, age and itinerary. Discuss them with a doctor; this checklist helps you prepare questions and is not a treatment plan.
Allergy medicines
If you use an allergy medicine, ask your doctor whether it suits your trip and what preparations your known allergies require.
Stomach upsets
Ask about fluid replacement supplies and which medicines are appropriate for you. Do not choose a child’s medicines from an adult’s travel kit.
Basic first-aid supplies
Pack plasters, a bandage and doctor-approved supplies for minor injuries. Check expiry dates and that packaging is intact.
Skin protection
Prepare sunscreen, clothing that covers your skin and a hat. A product for irritated skin does not replace sun protection.
Your usual pain and fever medicines
Bring only medicines that are suitable for you, along with their instructions. Seek medical attention for significant illness or injury.
Packaging and documents
Keep original packaging and copies of prescriptions. Special rules and permits apply to some controlled medicines; check your medicine on the Thai FDA portal before traveling.
For preparation, consult the CDC guides to packing, travel health kits and healthy travel.
